Density altitude & performance

Density altitude is pressure altitude corrected for temperature. As it rises, the air thins and aircraft performance falls, critical on hot Saudi days.

What it is

The altitude the air 'feels like' to the wing and engine after correcting for temperature.

Why it matters

High density altitude lengthens the take-off roll, flattens the climb and reduces engine power.

Manage it

Plan with the performance charts, reduce weight, and use the cooler part of the day.
